Chamber at 12 oclock this day & in their presence take & subscribe the oaths required by the Constitution to qualify him to enter upon the discharge of the duties of his office & at an early hour thereafter, make a communication to the two branches by the Secretary of State.

A communication was received from the Senate by Mr Kavanagh their Secretary, proposing a Convention of both Houses in the Representatives Chamber at 12 oclock today for the purpose of administering the oaths required by the Constitution to Jonathan G Hunton, Governor elect, and requesting the concurrence of the House - The House concurred and the Clerk was requested to acquaint the Senate therewith.

Agreeably to the vote of the Convention of last evening, the Convention reassembled in the Representatives Chamber at 11 oclock when the Committee appointed yesterday for the purpose, proceeded to receive, sort & count the votes for a Counsellor from the District of Cumberland, and having attended to the duties assigned them reported the whole number given, to be One hundred & fifty nine - necessary to constitute an election eighty - That Allen H Cobb had seventy three - David Dunlap had sixty six - Phinehas Varnum had eighteen - Noah Hinckley had one & Boardman Johnson one - No person having the requisite majority the committee again proceeded to receive, sort & count the votes for a Counsellor for the District of Cumberland, and having attended to the duties assigned them reported the whole number of votes given to be one hundred & sixty - necessary to constitute an election eighty one - That Allen H Cobb had seventy seven - Phinehas Varnum had fifty eight - David Dunlap had twenty four - Boardman Johnson had one - No person having the requisite majority the committee again proceeded to receive sort & count the votes for a Counsellor for the District of Cumberland, and having attended to that duty reported the whole number given to be One hundred & sixty one - necessary to constitute an election eighty one - Phinehas Varnum had eighty three & Allen H Cobb had seventy eight and Phinehas Varnum was declared elected -
