Bill to incorporate the Hampden Mutual Fire Insurance Company reported in this House by the Committee on the Judiciary was read 1st & 2nd time & tomorrow at 10 oclock assigned for a 3rd reading.

Bill - an additional act respecting the Winthrop Bank, reported in this House by the Committee on Banks & Banking, was read 1st & 2nd time & tomorrow at 10 o'clock assigned for a 3rd reading.

Resolve in favor of Edward Smith was read once & tomorrow at ten oclock assigned for a second reading.

On motion of Mr Goodwin of South Berwick Ordered, That the Senate be requested to take from their files of last year the petition of sundry inhabitants of South Berwick and send the same down to this House - read & passed. Sent up.

Agreeably to assignment the House took up the consideration of the report of the committee on Contested elections in the case of William Freeman, and accepted the same - the question of acceptance was taken by yeas & nays & decided as follows Yeas 79 Nays 53. [See appendix page 332] and see Journal ante page 89.

On motion of Mr Moury of Lubec, Ordered, That the Committee on Judiciary take into consideration the expediency of altering the act for the Regulation of Inholders, Retailers & Common Victuallers, passed March 3rd 1829. read & passed. Sent up for concurrence.

The Committee on Finance, reported that it is expedient to raise the sum of Fifty Thousand dollars by way of a State Tax - and the report was accepted.

An order came from the Senate for concurrence directing the committee on the Judiciary to enquire into the expediency of altering the "act for regulating Ferries" and the House concurred.
