Communications were received from the Clerks of the Courts in Washington and Oxford Counties agreeably to an order of this House of the 9.inst. which were severally read and referred to the Select Committee of this House who have that subject under consideration.

On motion of Mr OBrien Ordered that the Committee on State Lands be instructed to enquire into the expediency of protecting or selling the timber on lots of land reserved for the use of Towns where incorporated, in townships not-yet inhabited, heretofore sold by Massachusetts or Maine, within the limits of the latter, and if sold to point-out the mode in which the proceeds may be vested and appropriated to the purposes for which they were reserved, with leave to report by Bill or otherwise - sent up for concurrence -

A Communication was received from William B. Webber, Councillor elect declining the appointment - which was read and sent up.

A Communication was received from the Warden of the State Prison, which was laid upon the table and three hundred copies thereof ordered to be printed

Petition of Joshua Richardson and others to alter the name of the Maine Manufacturing Company - was read and referred to the Committee on Manufactures - sent up for concurrence.

Petition of Rufus Chandler and others for liberty to build a Bridge in Freeport - and Pet.
