9 Afternoon Met according to adjournment.

Ordered that Messrs Lowell of Machias Knowlton of Montville and Swett of Prospect be a Committee to wait on the several Clergymen who reside within the towns of Augusta and Hallowell and request them to officiate as Chaplains to the House in rotation according to seniority during the present session.

Ordered that the Clerk be authorized to contract with some suitable person for an Assistant Clerk of this House at a price not exceeding two dollars per day and the Clerk appointed Asaph R Nichols, who entered upon his duties accordingly.

On Motion of Mr Steele

Ordered that Messrs Steele of Brownfield, Smith of Westbrook and Wade of Woolwich with such as the Senate may join be a Committee to engage some suitable person of legal attainments to draft Bills and Resolves the present session sent up for concurrence

An Order came from the Senate for concurrence directing that all Messages between the two Houses of the Legislature be communicated by the Secretary of the Senate and Clerk of the House of Representatives and that all papers be transmitted by them or their Assistants and the House concurred

Ordered that Messrs Shapleigh of Berwick, Steele of Brownfield and Allen of Green be a committee to employ some suitable person to perform the duties of Doorkeeper and Page and report the same to this House.
