To inquire into the expediency of appropriating by law certain sums to be apportioned to the several counties in this State according to their representation for the encouragement of the Mulberry tree and manufactory of silk and report to this House by Bill or otherwise – read, passed and sent up for concurrence.

On motion of Mr. Frost Ordered, that the Committee on the Division of Towns be directed to inquire into the expediency of annexing a certain tract of unincorporated land lying between the towns of Raymond and Standish, to the town of Raymond and report to this House by Bill or otherwise – sent up for concurrence.

On motion by Mr. Smith of Gray, Ordered, that the Committee on the Militia be instructed to inquire into the expediency of arming the Militia at the expense of the State – sent up for concurrence.

On motion by Mr. Tobin, Ordered that the Committee on the Judiciary be directed to inquire into the expediency of abolishing the office of Crier in the Courts on this State and transferring their duties to the Sheriffs of the several counties. The House reconsider their vote whereby they passed the forgoing order and refer the same to a select Committee of this House consisting of Messrs. Tobin, Emerson and Phelps.

On motion Mr. Fessenden, Ordered, that the Committee on Finances be instructed to inquire into the expediency of taxing township No. 1 in the 12th Range lying in the County of Penobscot, to the several owners thereof according to their several proportions of ownership.
