188 In Secret Session Afternoon Thursday March 1, 1832

Mr. Fessenden moved to amend the first Resolve by adding after the words, "indemnity therefore" the following words "both to this State and to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts" and the question upon so amending was taken by yeas and nays and decided in the negative as follows yeas 51, nays 109.

Mr. Dummer moved to amend the first Resolve by striking out the words, "Legislature of Maine" and insert in lieu thereof the words "people of Maine" so that it shall read "submitted to the people of Maine for approval or rejection" And the question upon so amending was taken by yeas and nays and decided in the negative as follows Yeas 61, Nays 95.

The House voted to dispense with passing the Resolves to be engrossed, and the question upon finally passing the same was taken by yeas and nays and decided in the affirmative as follows, yeas 80, Nays 69.

And the Clerk by confidential message communicated the same to the Senate and requested their concurrence, On motion of Mr. Clifford the secret session was closed.

In secret session, Saturday March 3, 1832 On motion of Mr. Williams, Ordered, that Mr. Williams, Dummer and Cilley be a committee to consider what order the House ought to take in relation to the proceedings of this House while in secret session and report such facts as they may ascertain in relation
