Camp of 2nd Maine Regt Near Falmouth Va April 22nd 1863

Gen. I respectfully refer to you for information concerning Sergt Kennedy Steward, and Privates Samuel Morrison, James Anderson and Thomas Townsend of my Co. who claim to be enlisted for two years only. They were enlisted at Houlton June 3rd by one Capt. Freese, and joined Co. I of this Regt. as recruits, and were transferred to my Co. Dec. 23rd 1861. Their Descriptive Lists were lost in Co. I consequently they have nothing to show. Their names were entered in the Muster Rolls as enlisted for 3 years as it was supposed that no men were enlisted at that date for a shorter period. They claim to have been enlisted for the 7th Maine but were not accepted as they were enlisted for 3 years; then they volunteered to come
