I came out with the regt in May 1861 as a sergeant and have since been promoted through all the grades up to 1st Lieut and have not been away from the reg't 24 hours at any one time since then. Any of the officers that I have named will confirm the above statements. I am very much attached the the old 2nd but like every body else am a little ambitious Pardon me sir for taking up so much of your valuable time but if you would be so kind as to give this matter a little attention and make some inquiries of some or all the officers that I have named concerning my abilities etc. and give me an appointment you would confer a great favor upon Your humble serv't
