Report of the joint standing Committee to whom was referred the returns of votes for Governor stating the whole number allowed by the Committee as duly returned to be seventy one thousand six hundred & two - that of this number Robert P Dunlap had Thirty seven thousand four hundred & eighty one: Peleg Sprague had Thirty two thousand nine hundred & sixty seven - Thomas A Hill, had One thousand & seventy six - & all other persons seventy eight - that the number necessary to constitute an election is Thirty Five thousand eight hundred & two - that Robert P Dunlap having Thirty Seven thousand four hundred & eighty one votes, and three thousand three hundred and sixty more than all other persons voted for is constitutionally elected Governor of the State of Maine for the current political year. In many of the returns allowed by your Committee to have been duly made, the name of the town was not added to that of the Selectmen in their signature on the inside nor on the outside of said return, but there being enough in the body of the return to shew from what towns they came, your committee have considered them as duly made. Of the returns delivered into the office of the Secretary of State, those from Brunswick, Edmunds, Belgrade, Monson & Industry were never sealed up, & were for that cause rejected. In several instance the votes were written not in the usual mode of spelling the names of either of the Candidates, but being satisfied for whom they were intended, were allowed.
