[page 559] By Dr. Butler: Q. Did you ever see a patient beaten there with an oxgoad? A. Yes, sir, I have. Q. Tell the story of that? A. It was four years ago last fall I think that I saw a man beating his oxen, that is, the hospital oxen. They were on a cart in the highway not a great way from my house. And he gave the cattle quite a thrashing. I should say perhaps there at the hospital they might call it "churning." It appeared as though the oxen had run away by the way he was threshing them. The patient stood near by this man and the cattle. Whether this man said anything to him or not I cannot say; but I saw him raise the oxgoad and put it over his back By Dr. Eaton: Q. Who raised the oxgoad? A. his name was John Drummond. He was employed on the farm, not an insane man. Q. He was beating this insane man over the head with an oxgoad? A. Whether he put it over his head I could not say.
