[page 955] There were a good many people that conversed about it and wrote, and I had as much to do with it as anybody, and I dont know but that I ought to say more, in beginning it. The history of it is this: The trustees- stretching the common signification of the word a little- challenged the investigation. They made a request- it doesn't matter what you call it. I don't mean to use the word "challenge" in an offensive way; but in my mind it amounted to that. They invited us before the legislature. And then several of us accepted it and said we would come before them, and Dr. Neal was one who was anxious to come before the Committee and tell his story. Ques. Did Dr. Neal give you any advice down there at Brunswick as to whether it was best to go on with it or not? Ans. No, sir. I think he advised me not to begin. Ques.
