CONGRESSMAN EDWIN C. BURLEIGH of Augusta.

"THE Governor" -- you know him? Perhaps you think you do, For he's a man of easy access, with a heart that's kind and true; But he's had his high ambitions and his worthy ends and aim And he's fought his way unaided, to the upper hall of fame. He has won by perseverance; by the knack of doing things: By the zeal of his devotion to the higher reasonings; By the art of close attention to the people, small and great; And by honest consecration to the service of the State; -- For no request's by him neglected and no duty left undone And he's hustling for the People, from the dawn to set or sun.

In the higher sense, a statesman is a man, of vision clear. Who sees the Future. from the Present, and knows when to hope or fear; Who, unshaken by the tempests, stands erect -- a Northern Pine -- So, the Governor is constant; so he stands, thru storm and shine.
