30th We marched threw Union then threw out skirmishers, crossed over to Union Mills and camped.

July 1st 1862. The rebels left here yesterday morning with considerable Cavelry. We marched this morning for Hanover Penselvania [Pennsylvania] and arived there at 4 o'clock Grate inthuseism prevailed when we crossed the state line. We lay at Hanover two hours then started for Getysburg [Gettysburg] in the evening and marched until twelve oclock at night and camped within three miles of the town.

2d We got up early and had an inspection of arms and marched about two miles and halted in an orchard. Some firing all day. I saw John Wescot. and Henry Kallach while laying here. About 4 o'clock the battle was raging fearfully when all at once the command rang out. Fall in 20th. By the right flank, forward march. We marched like horses until we reached the left of our line of battle.
