July 14th. 1863 The rebels left in the night and our army advanced in the morning to Williams Port.
15th We marched to Bucktown
16th We marched down to the river
17th We marched across the river and to Leavittsville and comfort.
18th Marched about 7 miles into the Loudon valey and camped by a brook
19th We marched about five miles. A 2nd Me boy got wounded by another fellow handling a cavalryman's revolver carelessly. He got wounded in the ankle. I commensed drawing rations for the Co. The boys ralied on an old secesh because he refused to take the oath of elegiense [allegiance] to the US government and took whatever promises they could find.
20th We marched thru Union and tenants Uppervilles and comfort for the night.
21st Lay in comfort 22nd marched to Rocktown [?]
23rd We marched into the Thoroughfare Gap. Sharp skirmishing in the afternoon. We took the front at dark and two companies went on picket till morning.
24th The pickets skirmished in the morning
