Brandy Station & Rappahannock Station 53

Dec 1st But little firing thru the day. We had orders to be in readyness to march at any moment. We wer to be withdrawn sometime that night.

2nd We were withdrawn from the picket line at three o'clock in the morning and covered the retreat. We marched across the Rapidan and camped near Brandy station at night. We had no trouble there the day.

3rd We marched to the Rappahanock station and comfort in the roads near by.

4th We relieved the third division of the first corps and took our place on the bank of the river also to a little rebel fort that we took from them a short time before. Our duty was to guard the RR Bridge.

5th I bought a tent and moved it onto my ground.

6th We buried a man that belong to Co H. His name was Otis Ireland from Presque Isle, Maine.

7th We are all very busy building our quarters.
