An officer was drowned 55

Sep 18th It is still raining. We fell in to go on the railroad building [?], but it is to wet. One of the 8th PA cavelry officers was drowned near here today. He was going to the station to take the cars for home having a furlow in his pocket. His horse had to ford a small creek that was flooded by the recent rains so that the bank was under water, and the horse missed the track and when he came to the bank of the little brook which was some two or three feet above the bed, fell and pitched the man over his head and trampled him under water until he was dead.

19th We went to finish our detale and got done before night.
