72 Wm Gerish leg amputated

Our Regt had four men wounded. Falling back caused a sharp engagement and it lasted till after dark. The rebs attacked the 4th corps which was on our right, and rebs lost very heavy and had to fall back.

3rd A lousy day. Sharp skirmishing in the morning. We formed a line of battle and built brestworks. Wm Gerish wounded in both legs, breaking one and causing amputation. Wm Gilman wounded in the left elbow. Both of these men belongs to Co H. Sergt Fred Mean of Co A. was killed by an unexploded shell. It mangled his leg close to his body. Albert Roberts was wounded slighyt in the cheek with a buckshot. It went into his mouth and came out through his cheek but did not hirt his teeth. 23 wounded and one killed in our regt today

4th A fair day. Skirmishing all day. Three wounded in our regt. Heavy fighting on the left in the evening. We drew the enemy to thair old position.
