92 On our left flank

Aug 23d Heavy canonading on our right. It is reported we have gained ground in front of Petersburg. In the afternoon one of the 1st Me Cavelry was here and he said that regt was about 1/2 mile down the R.R. I started to see them and when I got there they had gone in the direction of reems [?] station about three miles. We are expecting an attack on our left. The 1st Division of the second corps has join with the cavelry.

Aug 24th At the yellow house. A little canonading at a long distence on the right early in the morning. Our cavelry had quite a smart fight on our left yesterday. Capt Sargeant of Baker's Cavalry was killed. He was formerly Lieut Colonel of the 2nd Me infantry.

25th I went on picket at seven oclock. One of Gen Warrens aids went out nearest the picket line with some orderlys to see how things looked and run onto a rebel picket past on the road and the rebs fired a number of shots
