Sept 5th I was detailed for fatigue duty 6th We had a shower in the morning. Cold all day. It comensed to rain at 5 o'clock PM. I dug a spring P.M. 7th All quiet today. 8th Fair and cold A.M. cloudy and looks like rain PM. 9th A fair day. I went on guard at six o'clock A.M. 10th A bright light in the direction of petersburg at twelve o'clock last night which lasted three hours. I was relieved from guard at six o'clock A.M. 11th A fair forenoon. Dress parade at five o'clock P.M. A shower at dress parade time. The Rail Road is completed from city point to the yellow house about 100 rods from here. The engine ran up here for the first time today 12th A fair day but cold and windy. I went on picket in the morning. the news came that Mobile was taken with twenty five thousand prisoners.
