54 June 22nd

  Sunday Morning and it looks some like rain. I should like to be to home this morning. At noon we had orders to go off on a Scouting expedition. We went abought 20 miles from Front Royal. but did not see anything we rode until abought dark and then we turned around and came back. within 5 miles of Front Royal and stoped for the night.

June 23rd

  We came back to Front Royal this morning and stoped for the rest of the day.

June 24th

  We started again this morning on another Scouting party. went abought 10 miles. did not find enything. got back to camp at 6 oclock.

55 June 25th In camp all day.

June 26th In Camp all day to day on guard to night.

June 27th

  We was awaken this morning at 3 oclock with the orders to Pack and Saddle our horses soon as possible for the enemy was coming. We was all ready in a few moments and in Line of battle. but it proved to be a false alarm. we moved our Camp to day 1 mile near the river.

June 28th Today I was in camp in the fore noon. at noon I went on Picket guard down to Chester Gap. 5 miles beyond Front Royal.
