June 29th

  At 3 oclock this morning we received a dispatch to return to Camp soon as possible. When we got to camp we found all of the Companies in a line ready to go to Layrey. 25 miles from Front Royal to drive out some of General Jackson's forces said to be there. we went within 7 miles of Lurey and Camped for the night

June 30th

  The bugle sounded Boots and saddle at daylight this morning and by sun rise we was all ready to start again. when we come in sight of Lurey we saw the rebels going out of the town. There was only 3 or 4 companies of Cavalry. we pursued them and come up with them and a

fight ensued. we lost 1 man killed and two or 3 wounded I do not know whither we killed eny of the rebels. we took 4 prisoners. we only followed them abought 2 mils. we had orders to halt and go back. We got back to camp bought 12 oclock that night tired and hungrey.

July 1st

  I was in camp to day. we had an Inspection and was mustered for pay at 4 oclock in the afternoon.

  It raind to day very hard we are in camp

July 3rd

  In camp all day
