78 August 22nd

  We went out to Sulphur Springs this morning to see if there was eny rebels in that vicinity. we came back abought noon and was stationed on a hill to watch the enemy. there was Several heavy thunder showers in the after noon. The battle has been rageing all day.

August 23rd

  The battle is still going on. The Cavalry is scouting around watching the enemy. we have not been engaged since the 20th we have been in our saddles nearly all of the time day and night. Gen'l Popes and Gen'l Mclellen forces are now all togeather. I think we

will beat the enemy. They have got large forces on both sides.

August 24th fighting is still going on but I don't know how I don't know which side is gaining. we have been riding back and forth all day. we are pretty well tired out

August 25th

  Last night was the first night that we have slept all night. our horses have not been unsaddled but twice for 8 days. we came last night abought 10 miles from the battlefield. so I do not know how the battle is going on. we are going out
