I entirely appreciate some of your remarks in respect to some things that have past between us. it has been a cause of inexpressible sorrow to me that you have not seemed always to understand my motives + feelings towards you, + that you have not been uniformly respectful in your deportment towards me. But every thing of this kind most cheerfully can I not only forgive, but consider discharged in full by offset against my fits of impatience + irritability which I ought to have guarded against. it is enough for us now that we know, + feel, that there has been ever [underlined], as there is still, as strong mutual love between us as the relation of father + son is susceptible of.
