Wednesday. Oct, 6. 1852 Clear delightful weather in the morning - At noon, stormy & cold. Took cold gathering apples, & now have the chills, and sick head ache. Your aunt Harriet is here. F. O. J. Smith has been here, & I have decided not [underline] to sell him my situation, at present. Hiram Hall told me he intended to go to Boston, next week, to buy goods. Mr. Jefferson Cool-idge has moved with his family into the village, & occupies the Doctor's house. He has 8 children. He is reputed a man of wealth. The Doctor & his children board with Dr. Jennings in Tom Bridgham's house. Dana Bradbury is ad-mitted to practice of medicine, & will commence, here. Wm Andrews did not go with Horton to California - couldn't get ready in season. I believe, however, he has not given up the idea of going. The Sewing Circle are fitting up some shirts for him. Carrol has had a long letter from Wash, who writes that things look well at the Aroostic. He speaks of giving you a chance to work [underline] there next spring. Rev. Dr. Wilson spent yesterday afternoon with us, & we had a very sociable time. We agreed very well in our views upon the current topics of the day. As to the relative merits of the two great political parties in this country, & their candidates for President: and as to smaller parties upon outside issues. Slavery, temperance, Americanism, &. &. &. Mr. Wilson is a man of sound reason, & common sense. [?ennet] Loring is at Paris, visiting.
