Zadoc, I have more than once advised you read the [start underline] Proverbs of Solomon [end underline]. They are collection of the wisest [underline] rules in regard to your [underline] duties, & in regard to all your relations. Read them [start underline] not carelessly [end underline], but understandingly. Solomon had great experience, & the knowledge which he gained by that experience, directed by [some?] inspiration, is embodied in his maxims [underline] & sayings [underline] which I wish you to read. They will teach you how much[underline], & how little [underline], to value the things of this life which men most [pursue?] after. They will teach you how much to value life itself. They will teach you the proper [underline] use of all your faculties, & the proper use of all worldly acquirements. They will teach you how to regulate & direct your affections, & how to moderate your desires, & to govern your passions. Read them, Zadoc, - Begin at the first chapter, & read the whole [underline], & pause often, as you read, to reflect upon them.
