besmeared with it, & their tails [underline] heavy with the strong juices of the yard whisking in my face. Next drove uncle David's [fathing?] cw away from the Russet apple tree, & picked up 1 1/2 bhs. apples with cold wet fingers, & colder feet, in the frozen [caret] dew. Bell ringing for breakfast before all my chores were done. Hurried to warm my feet & couldn't find a half a chance to do it, so many persons & things were about the stove. Washed my face & hands & sat down to the table in a very uneasy state, with a long beard, & wrinkled collar, & I shouldn't wonder, if with a wrinkled [underline] face. Worried through breakfast, got off my beard with a dull razor. Went out to husk, & found a cow in the barn eating up my best corn. Worked till my thumb nail was worn off, & till I was tired, & till I am now resting by writing to you. This is a true [underline] picture, or rather the outline. There is a good deal of uncomfortable filling up that I haven't time to put in. The The outline [underline] of a true picture of one of my mornings [start underline] at home [end underline]. Now, if it has in it any charms for you [underline], and you think, my [double underline] lines are cast in pleasanter places than yours [underline], I will exchange conditions with you. I [underline] will be taking a sweet nap in your chambers, at the Pearl St. House, & wake refreshed at the sound of the gong. Have a half hour to wash, & shave, & right up my dicky before I sit down to my coffee, & steak, & other tempting luxuries; while you [underline] shall be doing my routine of dirty business, about the stable & pig stye, in a much of [caret] sweat, & perfumed with the mixture of odors that no pen can describe.
