The Colonel is still here under arrest I think there is no doubt but that the proceedures in his case went to Washington and if that is the case it is pretty evident what the decision and sentence of the Court was.

I am of your opinion in regard

to the propriety of getting a new man for Colonel if possible and we find a good one. I took your list up to [Shleallennon?] but dont think it will work. So Henry of all men is my choice but I see that that will not succeed. The only outside man than can be made Col of this Regt is Woodman What do you think of him and the idea! Please let me know as soon as you get this. I think you can now if you should wish be major of this Regt instead of McArthur who I learn is not popular with the Gov. Bryant [underlined] I guess did not aid [triple underlined] Mc any while in Augusta. You can at any rate get a recommendation of a majority of the officers for major at the next vacancy
