The primary aim was to describe the effects for nursing home residents of monthly professional cleaning and individual oral hygiene instruction provided by registered dental hygienists (RDHs), in comparison with daily oral care as usual. The secondary aim was to study the knowledge and attitudes among nursing staff regarding oral health care and needs.
In this randomised controlled trial (RCT), 146 residents were recruited from nine nursing homes in Regions of Stockholm and Sörmland and were randomly assigned (on nursing home level) to either intervention group (I; n=72) or control group (C; n=74). Group I received monthly professional cleaning, individual oral hygiene instructions and information given by an RDH. Group C proceeded with daily oral care as usual (self-performed or nursing staff-assisted). Oral health-related data was registered with the mucosal-plaque score index (MPS), the modified sulcus bleeding index (MSB), and root caries. The nursing staff's attitudes and knowledge were analysed at bstructions, seems to improve oral hygiene and may reduce root caries among nursing home residents. This may also contribute to a more positive attitude regarding oral hygiene measures among nursing home staff, as compared with daily oral care as usual.
The recommendation of bed rest for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) patients has changed during the last 20 years, and it has become a concern for researchers. The existing researches on potentially harmful treatment of bed rest for DVT patients focus only on physiological outcomes. This qualitative study explored the implications of bed rest from the perspective of patients with acute DVT. Understanding these implications will provide more evidence on whether bed rest should be used as a medical treatment of acute DVT.
For data collection, a descriptive qualitative design utilizing semi-structured, in-depth, face-to-face interviews with nine patients with acute DVT was conducted. In order to find the themes and subthemes emerging from the interviews for data analysis, the Colaizzi method, which was suggested by phenomenological methodology, was used.
The four major themes found were physical effects, psychological effects, social effects, and post-trauma growth. These themes illustrated the bed rest experienthe perspective of patients with acute DVT. Further quantitative studies should compare the quality of life and psychosocial status of patients with and without bed rest amidst acute DVT.
Poor quality of pediatric healthcare services at health facilities is a major contributing factor to child morbidity and mortality in low- and middle-income countries, including Ethiopia, and it brings parental dissatisfaction. Eliciting parents' perception is an important method used to assess functionality or quality of pediatric healthcare services. Thus, the objective of this study was to assess the perceived quality of pediatric healthcare services and to identify factors for it in Felege-Hiwot Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, Northwest Ethiopia.
A facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted among parents of childhood patients from September 15, 2019 to October 15, 2019; 407 participants were recruited. Stratified random sampling was used to select respondents and data were collected using face-to-face interviews. Frequencies, percentages, and means with standard deviations were used to describe profiles of respondents. Both bi-variable and multivariable logistic regressions were used to movery. Continuous and periodic parental feedback should be considered in order to assess their satisfaction which in turn is an insight for quality improvement to be taken by the facility managers.
Perceived quality of healthcare services in the hospital was low compared to the national plan which reflected that childhood patients did not receive optimal care. Educational status, place of residence, service delivering unit, illness type, and intention of hospital preference were independent determinants for parental perceived quality of pediatric healthcare service delivery. Continuous and periodic parental feedback should be considered in order to assess their satisfaction which in turn is an insight for quality improvement to be taken by the facility managers.
The contact-tracing COVID-19 technology allows for tracing people that come in contact to individuals with COVID-19 wherever they are located. The number of tracing COVID-19 infection technology and devices is rapidly increasing. This has prompted many researchers to study the acceptability and ethical issues related to the implementation of such technology.
The purpose of this study was to determine the acceptability of COVID-19 contact-tracing technology and ethical issues of use.
A cross-sectional questionnaire-based study was used. The target population was Jordanian adults (>18 years). Cy7DiC18 The survey was distributed to a convenience sample of 2000 general public in Jordan.
The results found that the number of people who accept to use COVID-19 contact-tracing technology was 71.6%. However, the percentage of people who were using this technology was 37.8. The main ethical concerns for many of participants were privacy, voluntariness, and beneficence of the data. Only income and living area were predictors for acceptability and use of tracing technology (p≤ 0.01).
The majority of Jordanians accept the implementation of contact-tracing technology for COVID-19 infection. Among ethical concerns of the implementation of such technology were privacy, beneficence and voluntariness.
The results of this study would help in improving the state of science regarding acceptability to use contact-tracing technology for health purposes. Moreover, the present findings provide evidence of predictors of acceptance and ethical concerns among Jordanian population about COVID-19 contact-tracing technology.
