Circ_0076906 silencing inhibited osteogenesis-related genes in hMSCs; 3. Circ_0076906 acted as a sponge for miR-1305; 4. MiR-1305 regulated OGN expression; 5. Circ_0076906 induced-osteogenic differentiation depended on miR-1305/ OGN pathway. Circ_0076906 relieved osteoporosis and promoted osteogenic differentiation through the miR-1305/ OGN pathway. The most important demand of today's high-performance materials is to unite high strength with extreme fracture toughness. The combination of withstanding large forces (strength) and resistance to fracture (toughness), especially preventing catastrophic material failure by cracking, is of utmost importance when it comes to structural applications of these materials. However, these two properties are commonly found to be mutually exclusive strong materials are brittle and tough materials are soft. In dental enamel, nature has combined both properties with outstanding success - despite a limited number of available constituents. Made up of brittle mineral crystals arranged in a sophisticated hierarchical microstructure, enamel exhibits high stiffness and excellent toughness. Different species exhibit a variety of structural adaptations on varying scales in their dental enamel which optimise not only fracture toughness, but also hardness and abrasion behaviour. Nature's materials still outperform their syntheticewing it from a materials science point of view, design principles for the development of advanced biomimetic materials uniting high strength and toughness can be formulated. We present the case of a 4-year-old boy with acquired Brown syndrome of inflammatory origin. Without evidence of systemic inflammation, the disease typically resolves with oral steroids or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Refractory cases can be treated with local steroid injections or surgery. The present case of inflammatory Brown syndrome did not respond to conservative therapy, and parental concerns and wishes precluded more invasive treatments. Adalimumab was initiated and led to complete resolution of the disease. A 24-year-old woman presented with periorbital pain, progressive diplopia, and restricted eye movement. Routine blood testing was normal except for increased levels of thyroid peroxidase autoantibody (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin autoantibody (TGAb). Orbital computed tomography revealed fusiform thickening of the rectus muscles belly, with tendon sparing, as in thyroid eye disease. Rectus muscle biopsy revealed isolated amyloidosis. Further workup showed no evidence of systemic amyloidosis. ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Acanthosicyos naudininus, Gomphocarpus fruticosus, and Cryptolepis decidua are, according to the knowledge of traditional healers, used in Namibia to treat inflammatory disorders such as pain, fever and skin rashes. AIM OF THE STUDY The present study was conducted to evaluate the immunomodulatory effects and the possible underlying mechanisms of action of the plant extracts on peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) such as T-lymphocytes. MATERIALS AND METHODS Methanolic and EtOAc extracts of A. naudinianus, G. fruticosus and C. decidua were analysed for their immunomodulatory potential. PBMCs were isolated from the blood of healthy donors and incubated with the plant extracts at concentrations 100, 30, 10, 3, 1 and 0.3 μg/mL. Effects on proliferation and viability of activated human lymphocytes were assessed in comparison to ciclosporin A by flow cytometry using carboxyfluorescein succinimidyl ester (CFSE) and WST-1 assay. Flow cytometry by annexin V/propidium iodide (PI) sthe data show that the extracts of A. naudinianus, G. fruticosus and C. decidua have in vitro immunomodulatory activity and they interfere with the function of immunocompetent cells, suggesting an anti-inflammatory mode-of-action. The present chemical determination and pattern recognition results explain the therapeutic potency. However, further studies to investigate the therapeutic potential of the plants in inflammatory disorders should be done. ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Antrodia camphorata (A. camphorata) is a rare functional fungus in Taiwan and contains a variety of biologically active ingredients. Antrodin A (AdA) is one of the main active ingredients in the solid-state fermented A. camphorata mycelium. It protects the liver from alcohol damage by improving the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capacity of the liver and maintaining the stability of the intestinal flora. AIM OF THE STUDY The aim of this study was to evaluate the hepatoprotective activities of ethyl acetate layer extract (EALE), AdA, and Antroquinonol (Aq) from mycelium of A. camphorata on alcoholic liver injury. MATERIALS AND METHODS Mice were given with intragastrically vehicle (NC, 2% CMC-Na), alcohol (AL, 12 mL/kg bw), or different A. camphorata samples (EALE, AdA, Aq) at low (100 mg/kg bw) or high (200 mg/kg bw) dosages. The positive control (PC) group was given with silymarin (200 mg/kg bw). Except the NC group, each group of mice was fasted for 4 h after the last treatmere increased in the AdAH group, as evidenced by the mRNA expression levels of Nrf-2 and HO-1 were significantly increased; while those of CYP2e1, TNF-α, and TLR-4 were significantly decreased. Analysis of intestinal flora of feces showed that alcohol treatment significantly changed the composition of intestinal flora. Supplementation with AdA could mitigate dysbiosis of intestinal flora induced by alcohol. read more Flora of Faecalibaculum, Lactobacillus, and Coriobacteriaceae_UCG-002 showed significantly negative correlations with ALT, AST, AKP, and MDA levels. CONCLUSION Antrodin A could improve the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capacities of the liver and maintain the stability of intestinal flora. It is potentially a good candidate compound against acute alcoholic liver injury. ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Fenugreek is a traditional herbal medicine that has been used for centuries to treat hyperglycemia, muscle spasms, gastritis, constipation, edema, and other metabolic disorders. Recently, lipid-lowering effects of fenugreek have been identified. AIM OF THE STUDY The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine and clarify the impact of fenugreek supplementation on anthropometric indices and serum lipid levels. MATERIALS AND METHODS We searched PubMed, Scopus, ISI Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar from inception to June 2019 using relevant keywords. All randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating the effects of fenugreek on anthropometric indices and plasma lipids in adults were included. A random-effects model was used for quantitative data synthesis. A sensitivity analysis was conducted using the leave-one-out method. RESULTS A meta-analysis of 12 RCTs (14 arms) with 560 participants suggested a significant decrease in plasma concentrations of total cholesterol (WMD = -9.
