9%) was 80.00±5.60 years. At enrollment, 78 (53.4%) of the 146 patients were treated with statins. Among the statin users, 48.7% presented with a lack of TUG ability, which was significantly greater than in non-statin users (27.9%). However, the rates of IADL and ADL disabilities did not differ significantly between groups. In a multiple regression analyses, statin use was associated with a three-fold (95% CI 1.06, 9.51) increase in the risk of TUG inability, after adjusted all covariates. CONCLUSIONS There was a significant association between statin use and TUG inability in older Chinese inpatients with diabetes.OBJECTIVE To examine the diagnostic test accuracy (DTA) of the FRAIL-NH and four frailty screening instruments among institutionalized older adults. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. SETTING Institutionalized setting, Jinan, China. PARTICIPANTS A total of 305 older adults (mean age 79.3 ± 8.4 years, 57.0% female) were enrolled from nursing homes. MEASUREMENTS Frailty was assessed by the FRAIL-NH, Physical Frailty Phenotype (PFP), FRAIL, Tilburg Frailty Indicator (TFI), and Groningen Frailty Indicator (GFI), respectively. The Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) was used as a reference standard of frailty. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was plotted to examine the DTA of five frailty screening instruments against the CGA. check details The optimal cut-point was determined by the maximum value of the Youden index (YI, calculated as sensitivity + specificity - 1). RESULTS The prevalence of frailty ranged from 25.9% (FRAIL) to 56.4% (GFI). Areas under the curve (AUCs) against the CGA ranged from 0.80 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.74 - 0.85 FRAIL] to 0.83 (95% CI 0.78 - 0.88 PFP). At their original cut-points, all five frailty screening instruments presented low sensitivity (32.9% - 69.3%) and high specificity (80.0% - 93.8%), as well as high positive predictive values (90.7% - 94.9%) and low negative predictive values (33.2% - 48.1%). At their optimal cut-points, the sensitivity and specificity of the FRAIL-NH, PFP, and FRAIL tended to be balanced, and their correctly classified rates (76.1% - 81.3%) and kappa values (0.465 - 0.523) increased a lot. ROC contrasts showed that all five frailty screening instruments had similarly good diagnostic accuracy (χ2 0.0003 - 1.38, P > .05). CONCLUSION In the institutionalized setting, the specific FRAIL-NH, self-report FRAIL, TFI, and GFI as well as hybrid PFP, show similarly good diagnostic properties in identifying frailty against the CGA.OBJECTIVES To compare the obtained and expected values of pulmonary function variables between sarcopenic and non-sarcopenic elderly; verify the association between the pulmonary function and the indicators and diagnosis of sarcopenia; and establish cut-off points for pulmonary function variables to predict sarcopenia. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. LOCATION Macapá, Brazil. PARTICIPANTS community-dwelling elderly ≥ 60 years old (n=383), both sexes. MEASURES Were evaluated according to variables of pulmonary function (spirometry) and sarcopenia, according to the EWGSOP consensus. The association between pulmonary function and sarcopenia was performed using logistic regression and cut-off points established from the ROC Curve. RESULTS The prevalence of sarcopenia was 12.53% (n = 48). Sarcopenic individuals had significantly lower mean values for FVC, FEV1, FEF25-75% and PEF than non-sarcopenic. After adjustment, spirometric variables were inversely associated with sarcopenia (the increase by one unit of liter in FVC, FEV1 and FEF25-75% decreased the probability of sarcopenia by 59%, 67% and 39%, respectively), and the majority of these variables with the muscular strength indicator. Cut-off points, for elderly men and women, were discriminant criteria for the presence of sarcopenia FVC (≤2.52 L and ≤1.82 L), FEV1 (≤2.1 L and ≤1.39 L), PEF (≤3.45 L/s and ≤2.93 L/s) and FEF5-75% (≤1.97 L/s and ≤1.74 L/s). CONCLUSIONS There was loss of pulmonary function in sarcopenic elderly patients and an inverse association with the diagnosis of sarcopenia and its indicators. Cut-off points of pulmonary function variables can be used as a useful tool to discriminate sarcopenia.OBJECTIVES Cognitive frailty was notable target for the prevention of adverse health outcomes in future. The goal of this study was to use a population-based survey to investigate cognitive frailty phenotypes and potentially sociodemographic factors in elderly Chinese individuals. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. SETTING General community. PARTICIPANTS A total of 5328 elderly adults (aged 60 years or older, mean age 71.36 years) enrolled in the Shanghai study of health promotion for elderly individuals with frailty. MEASUREMENTS The 5-item FRAIL scale and the 3-item Rapid Cognitive Screen tools were used to assess physical frailty and cognitive impairment, including dementia or mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Physical frailty was diagnosed by limitations in 3 or more of the FRAIL scale domains and pre-physical frailty by 1-2 limitations. Subjective cognitive decline (SCD) and pre-MCI SCD, was diagnosed with two self-report measures based on memory and other cognitive domains in elderly adults. RESULTS Of the paintervention, and decrease adverse prognosis.BACKGROUND Malnutrition is frequent in older cancer patients, with a prevalence that ranges from 25% to 85%. The aging process is associated with several physiological changes, which may have implications for nutritional status. Screening tools can be useful for identifying malnutrition status among older patients with cancer. METHODS A hospital-based multicenter cohort study that included 44 institutions in Brazil. The Mini Nutritional Assessment-Short Form (MNA-SF) was administered to 3061 older hospitalized cancer patients within 48 hoursof admission. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used to test the sample distribution, considering sex, age range, calf circumference, body mass index, and MNA-SF score and classification. The categorical data were expressed by frequencies (n) and percentages (%)and compared using the chi-square test or Tukey test. RESULTS According to the results of the MNA-SF, 33.4% of the patients were malnourished, 39.3% were at risk of malnutrition, and 27.3% were classified as having normal nutritional status.
