Héctor Abad-Gómez ventured into political life, in accordance with Virchow dictum that "politics is medicine on a large scale". The lives of both have interesting similarities except for the tragic and premature death of the former that still receives rejection today in social, political and academic levels, both in Colombia and abroad. Based on antimicrobial susceptibility test interpretive breakpoint criteria from Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute and United States Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing, cefazolin uncomplicated urinary tract infection (uUTI) surrogate breakpoints do not accurately predict cefadroxil or cephradine susceptibility when testing indicated Enterobacteriaceae species isolates. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/enarodustat.html Hence, these two orally-administered cephalosporins (OC) are not equivalent spectrum substitutes for cephalexin or six other related OC agents for contemporary uUTI therapy. Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) is a neuroimaging technique that has allowed us an unprecedented look at the role that white matter microstructure may play in mental illnesses, such as psychosis. Psychosis-related illnesses, including schizophrenia, are increasingly viewed as existing along a spectrum; spectrums may be defined based on factors such as stage of illness, symptom severity, or genetic liability. This review first focuses on an overview of some of the recent findings from DWI studies. Then, it examines the ways in which DWI analyses have been extended across the broader psychosis spectrum, or spectrums, and what we have learned from such approaches. BACKGROUND HPV vaccination rates remain low in the United States despite efforts to increase them, although rates vary geographically both at the state and regional level within the United States. This study examines differences in teen HPV vaccination rates and associated sociodemographic factors among six regions in Texas to understand potential variation insmaller regions. These differences may inform planning of local public health interventions aimed at increasing vaccination uptake in teens. METHODS We analyzed sociodemographic and vaccination data for a total of 2256 teens 13-17 years old from six regions in Texas using the 2017 National Immunization Survey--Teen (NIS-Teen). We used survey-weighted chi-squared tests to compare demographic characteristics and HPV vaccination initiation and series completion across regions and multivariable robust Poisson regression models to examine the association between region of residence and HPV vaccination outcomes. RESULTS Rates of initiation and completion of the HPV vaccine series varied significantly between six regions in Texas and were both highest in El Paso County and lowest in Dallas County (initiation 82.8% vs52.5%, P  less then  0.001; completion 51.3% vs 30.2%, P  less then  0.001). Adjusted multivariable log binomial regression models demonstrated that teens in Dallas county were significantly less likely to initiate the HPV vaccine series than teens in Travis county (RR = 0.79, 95% CI (0.65, 0.95), P = 0.01). DISCUSSION HPV vaccination uptake varied significantly between six regions in Texas, highlighting the importance of closely examining local regions in public health planning efforts. Intervention efforts should consider the variation in sociodemographic characteristics as well as policy at the regional level to best improve vaccination rates in communities across the nation. OBJECTIVE To compare corneal epithelial thickness (CET) between patients who underwent LASIK surgery for the correction of myopia at least one year ago and healthy subjects. METHODS A retrospective observational study was conducted that included 93 healthy subjects (186eyes) and 26 subjects (52eyes) that underwent myopic LASIK surgery. OCT-SA, combined with Placido disk, was performed on all subjects, and CET maps were measured. Statistical analysis was performed to analyse differences between groups. Multivariate analysis was also performed to look for possible predictors of final CET. RESULTS There was no statistically significant differences between the groups in the demographic (age, sex) or anterior segment parameters (spherical equivalent, pachymetry) (all P>.05). Statistically significant differences (P less then .05) were obtained between both groups when comparing CET, including central, internal, and external rings (higher in patients that underwent LASIK surgery ≥1year). With the exception of the time elapsed since surgery (P=.00), no correlation was found between the CET and age, sex, ablated dioptres, or other variables studied (P less then .05). CONCLUSIONS CET values measured by the OCT-SA were higher in patients that underwent LASIK surgery ≥1year. The only variable that correlated with the CET after LASIK was the time elapsed since surgery. CET changes should be taken into consideration when planning refractive surgery due to its implications on the final outcome. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the impact of magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) diagnosis on clinical decision-making regarding treatment choice and maintenance of treatment over time in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). METHODS A cohort of patients who underwent MRE for IBD assessment between 2011 and 2014 was analyzed. From clinical records, we retrospectively retrieved their demographic data and clinical data on their IBD at the time of MRE, the results of MRE and the patient's clinical course. Medical management decisions made during the three months following MRE and at the 15-month follow-up were assessed. RESULTS In total, 474 MREs were reviewed. In the first three-month period, MRE results led to changes in the medical management of 266 patients (56.1%). Of those, maintenance therapy was altered in 140 patients (68.3%) (90.7% step-up and 9.3% top-down strategy), 65 (24.4%) were prescribed a course of steroids and 61 (22.9%) underwent surgery. MRE confirmed a CD diagnosis in 14/41 patients (34.1%) previously diagnosed with indeterminate colitis or ulcerative colitis and in 4/18 patients (22.2%) with suspected IBD. At the 15-month follow-up, treatment remained unchanged in 289 patients (65.8%). CONCLUSIONS These results suggest that MRE is a diagnostic tool that provides valid information for the clinical-decision making process for patients with CD.
