Late embryogenesis abundant (LEA) proteins play important roles in plant defense response to drought stress. click here However, genome-wide identification of the LEA gene family was not revealed in Salvia miltiorrhiza. In this study, 61 SmLEA genes were identified from S. miltiorrhiza and divided into 7 subfamilies according to their conserved domains and phylogenetic relationships. SmLEA genes contained the LEA conserved motifs and few introns. SmLEA genes of the same subfamilies had similar gene structures and predicted subcellular locations. Our results indicated that the promoters of SmLEA genes contained various cis-acting elements associated with abiotic stress response. In addition, RNA-seq and real-time PCR results suggested that SmLEA genes are specifically expressed in different tissue, and most SmLEA genes can be induced by drought stress. These results provide a valuable foundation for future functional investigations of SmLEA genes and drought stress-resistant breeding of S. miltiorrhiza.Social interactions can be stressful, especially if they involve provocation or ambiguity. At the same time, such interactions necessitate social cognition. The question thus arises how stress affects social cognition and how personality attributes modulate this effect. The aim of the current study was to investigate the link between emotional reactivity, physical exercise, and social cognition under stress. As a measure of social cognition, we used spontaneous perspective taking, i.e., the degree to which participants represented the mental state of another agent. Studying young female participants, we investigated how physiological regulation, measured through resting heart-rate variability, is related to spontaneous social perspective taking under stress, and to predicted anger in an ambiguous social scenario. When controlling for resting heart rate, vagally mediated heart-rate variability was negatively correlated with the effect of stress on perspective taking, indicating that good physiological regulation supports social cognition under stress. Further, participants who reported to exercise at least once a week showed higher perspective taking under stress than less active participants. Finally, we found tentative evidence for participants who exercised regularly to show reduced predicted anger in response to an ambiguous provocation. Our findings suggest that good physiological regulation and regular physical exercise support social cognition under stress.Mitophagy is an essential mechanism in maintaining cellular homeostasis, in which damaged and superfluous mitochondria are selectively degraded by the autophagy-lysosome pathway. Our recent study revealed that SPATA33 functions as a novel receptor for mitophagy in the priming of mitochondria for degradation in male germline cells. SPATA33 directly mediates the interaction of the outer mitochondrial membrane protein VDAC2 with the autophagy machinery component ATG16L1 during mitophagy. Upon starvation induction, SPATA33 can promote mitophagy as an autophagy receptor. Thus, SPATA33 confers cargo selectivity during mitophagy in germline cells. These findings provide new insights into selective autophagy and mitochondrial homeostasis.
Since the beginning of the twenty first century, there has been an intensified political debate about drugs in Russia. The drug problem is now regarded as one of the country's most serious problems and as an issue of top priority for the Russian government.
The aim of this qualitative study is to explore how illegal drugs are discussed in Russian political discourse.
The material includes an analysis of 177 speeches made in the lower house of the Russian parliament, the Russian State Duma, between 2014 and 2018. The data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis (CDA).
In general, the study found that the debate about the drug problem was characterized by consensus, and there were small differences between the Deputy members in their understanding of the problem. Three main understandings of the drug problem were identified (1) Illegal drugs as an increasing problem in Russia, (2) Drugs as an external threat, and (3) A need for a more repressive drug policy.
There was a general consensus ugs as an increasing problem in Russia, (2) Drugs as an external threat, and (3) A need for a more repressive drug policy. Conclusion There was a general consensus about how the drug problem should be regarded among the politicians, with a focus on a war on drugs and an absence of harm reduction ideas.
Double crush syndrome is a clinical condition composed of neurological dysfunction due to compressive pathology at multiple sites along a single peripheral nerve. The aims were to investigate the characteristics and disabilities of women with double crush syndrome, to compare the spinal alignment to healthy women, and to determine the cut-offs for the spinal alignment characteristics.
Twenty women with double crush syndrome (age 49.50 ± 8.64years) and 21 asymptomatic healthy controls (age 44.76 ± 7.82years) were included in the study. The physical characteristics, pain intensity, and symptoms were questioned. Disability with Disability of Arm and Shoulder Questionnaire and Neck Disability Index and spinal alignment with Spinal Mouse
(Idiag, Fehraltorf, Switzerland) were assessed.
The pain intensity at rest, night, and during activity was 3.70 ± 3.25, 6.01 ± 2.77, and 7.15 ± 2.68 cm, respectively. The most bothersome symptom was numbness (65%). The symptoms were seen in hands and/or fingers (55%), armse cut-off values were found as 54.5° for thoracic curvature and 113.5° for spine mobility.Dexmedetomidine (DEX) could serve as an adjuvant analgesic during cancer therapies. Abnormal expression of microRNAs (miRNAs) could lead to cancer development. This study was aimed to explore the roles of DEX in ovarian cancer (OC) development. OC cell lines SKOV3 and HO-8910 were treated with DEX, after which OC development and the miR-185, SOX9, and Wnt/β-catenin pathway were measured. DEX-treated HO-8910 cells were transfected with miR-185 mimic, miR-185 antisense or miR-185 antisense + silenced SOX9 to further measure the OC cell growth. The target relation between miR-185 and SOX9 was identified, and SOX9 and Wnt/β-catenin pathway were protein levels detected after miR-185 transfection. The role of miR-185 in OC in vivo was also measured. Our study found DEX had a dose-dependent inhibition on OC growth, and DEX promoted miR-185 but suppressed SOX9 expression in OC cells. miR-185 targeted SOX9. After interfering with miR-185 expression, HO-8910 cell proliferation, invasion, migration, and apoptosis were affected.
