Category theory allows us to elucidate structural interconnections between the laws of cognition and the laws of reality, thus paving the way for overcoming the Cartesian dualism separating the cognitive and physical worlds. Put another way, category theory suggests that there may be higher laws governing both worlds at once; the higher structuralist theory of cognition may embody the double aspect theory of information by David Chalmers.
A comparison between root canal transportation studies is nearly impossible because of nonstandardized transportation evaluation methods. The aim of the present review was to search, compare, and critically discuss transportation evaluation methods.
A search of PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and reference lists of articles was conducted up to March 2020 using appropriate key words to identify transportation evaluation methods. The methods in the included articles were extracted, compared, and categorized.
Seventy-four articles using original methods were selected. All studies share 3 main steps image acquisition, image measurements, and calculation of parameters. Images were acquired by photography, radiography, and computed tomographic imaging. Two types of measurements were used the amount of removed material and the canal center point distance. The parameters were calculated and reported as distance or ratio. Relationships between the different transportation parameters were found andng transportation.
Hiccups are a symptom in cancer patients but it's less researched.
The aimed to determine of prevalence of hiccups and treatment approach used in hiccup management in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy for nursing care.
This study used a descriptive cross-sectional design with self-reported questionnaires and was conducted from November 2018-May 2019 in Turkey. For collection of the data, a Patient Information Form (sociodemographic and disease characteristics), and a Hiccups Evaluation Form were used for the patients.
Hiccups were observed in 37 (23%) of the 160 patients who met the criteria for inclusion in the study. The great majority of the patients suffering from hiccups were male (65.9%) and the type of cancer in the majority of these patients was gastrointestinal cancer (54.1%). It was determined that the duration of hiccups in 83.8% of patients observed with hiccups was between 0 and 48 hours, that the average severity of their hiccups was 3.81 ± 2.25 (0-10), and that hiccups in 59.5% of these patients was of low severity. It was found that only 10.8% of patients suffering from hiccups used pharmacological methods for relief and that 27% used nonpharmacological methods.
The results of the study showed that over one-fifth of cancer patients suffered from hiccups. This situation reveals that hiccups are an important symptom that needs to be carefully emphasised in oncology practice.

Nausea and vomiting is a common symptom in children through their end of life journey. Aprepitant, a NK-1 antagonist, has become a potent weapon in the fight against chemo-induced nausea and vomiting. However, its use in palliative care for refractory nausea and vomiting has been limited due to limited experience or evidence of continuous use. Emerging evidence suggests that continuous use is not only safe, but also effective in patients with nausea and vomiting refractory to multiple lines of antiemetic therapy.
We conducted a single centre retrospective chart review of children receiving care from a specialist palliative care team who were given continuous daily aprepitant for nausea and vomiting and were unresponsive to at least two prior lines of antiemetic therapy. Parental reports of the impact of nausea on mobility and feeding were used as proxy efficacy markers. Duration of effect and toxicity was also evaluated.
Ten children (eight with cancer as a primary diagnosis and two with noncancer diagnoses) received continuous aprepitant and all showed resolution of nausea and vomiting and an increased ability to mobilize and tolerate feeds. No adverse events noted.
Our review suggests a role for aprepitant in management of refractory nausea and vomiting, demonstrating safety and efficacy. This case series is the first report of aprepitant use in this manner in the paediatric palliative care setting.

The pandemic has substantially increased the workload of hospital palliative care providers, requiring them to be responsive and innovative despite limited information on the specific end of life care needs of patients with COVID-19. Multi-site data detailing clinical characteristics of patient deaths from large populations, managed by specialist and generalist palliative care providers are lacking.
To conduct a large multicenter study examining characteristics of COVID-19 hospital deaths and implications for care.
A multi-center retrospective evaluation examined 434 COVID-19 deaths in 5 hospital trusts over the period March 23, 2020 to May 10, 2020.
Eighty three percent of patients were over 70%-32% were admitted from care homes. Diagnostic timing indicated over 90% of those who died contracted the virus in the community. Dying was recognized in over 90% of patients, with the possibility of dying being identified less than 48 hours from admission for a third. In over a quarter, death occurred less thport the prompt use of anticipatory subcutaneous medications and syringe drivers if needed. Finally, rapid discharges and direct hospice admissions could better utilize hospice beds and improve care.
Advance care planning remains underutilized. A better understanding of the role of education in promoting engagement is needed.
To examine advance care planning knowledge and its relationship to engagement in middle-aged and older adults.
This cross-sectional study utilized baseline data from 921 participants age ≥55 years enrolled in the STAMP randomized controlled trial, including a knowledge scale consisting of seven questions regarding the purpose and mechanisms of advance care planning and measures of participation.
Only 11.9% of participants answered all 7 questions correctly, and 25.6% of participants answered ≤3 correctly (defined as "low knowledge"). Low knowledge was independently associated with male gender (odds ratio [OR] 2.1, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.5, 3.0), non-white race (OR 1.5, 95% CI 1.1, 2.2), older age (OR 2.2, 95% CI 1.4, 3.4), lower income (OR 1.5, 95% CI 1.1, 2.1), and lower education level (OR 2.9, 95% CI 2.0, 4.1). Higher knowledge was independently associated with communicating with a loved one about quality versus quantity of life (OR 1.
