To investigate whether recombinant klotho given concomitantly with cisplatin is effective in preventing cisplatin-induced ovarian damage.

Thirty-two adult female mice were divided into four groups. Saline was given to the first group, cisplatin to the second group, recombinant mouse klotho to the third group, and recombinant mouse klotho + cisplatin to the fourth group. The removed ovarian tissues were examined and groups were compared histologically and immunohistochemical examination for antimullerian hormone (AMH), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase expression were done. Glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione reductase (GR) activities were measured by ELISA.

Ovarian tissue weight, primary and secondary follicle counts were higher in cisplatin + recombinant klotho group compared to cisplatin group in our study (respectively p < 0.0001, p < 0.0001, and p = 0.010). Injury scores (stromal congestion, edema and infiltration, follicular degeneration scores and edema in corpus luteum scoresensity and oxidative stress markers between cisplatin and cisplatin plus klotho groups except that klotho preserved follicules to some extent. The antioxidant mechanism of action of klotho may not be the primary protection mechanism in cisplatin induced ovarian injury.

Pulsed dye laser (PDL) is the gold standard for treating port-wine birthmarks (PWBs), but no consensus exists regarding anesthetic techniques when performing PDL for PWB. Given potential adverse neurocognitive effects from general anesthesia (GA) exposure in early childhood, we sought to establish current attitudes and practice patterns regarding anesthesia when treating PWB with PDL.

An electronic REDCap survey was distributed to members of the Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance (PeDRA) and the Society for Pediatric Dermatology (SPD) via email. Aggregate, anonymized results were reported.

Among 47 respondents, the majority (83%) identified as board-certified pediatric dermatologists. When treating children <4years old, 70% endorsed some use of topical anesthesia. Although 87% reported concerns about long-term side effects on development and school performance affecting their pursuit of GA, 61% reported use of GA for PDL in children <4years old. All 4 (100%) respondents whose PDL was located ould be provided.Despite a long record of research on the sources of the gender wage gap, a large fraction of gender wage differences remains unexplained. In this paper, we propose gender differences in social capital as a novel explanation for the gender wage gap. We use British data from the Understanding Society (UKHLS) survey and wage decompositions to estimate the contribution of social capital derived from network homophily, that is, the similarity to one's peer group, to the gender wage differential. Our results show that differences in network structure explain as much as 15% of the overall gender wage gap. This finding is largely driven by gender differences in the number of males among closest friends, while other social capital measures used in this study hardly matter. We further show that differences in returns to social capital are not statistically significant.

The association of periodontitis and Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg) with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is incompletely understood. To gain further insights, we evaluated periodontal status, oral, serum and joint inflammatory profiles, and Pg biomarkers in RA patients.

In this cross-sectional study, we evaluated 33 patients with predominantly untreated new-onset RA, 20 healthy individuals (HIs), and 20 non-RA chronic periodontitis patients. Thirteen mediators (IFN-γ, IL-10, IL-17A, IL-6, IL-8, CXCL10, TNF-α, CXCL13, IL-23, MMP-1, MMP-3, MMP-8, MMP-9) were measured in serum, synovial fluid, saliva and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) by multiplex immunoassay. Serum Pg IgG antibodies and subgingival Pg DNA were determined.

Most RA patients (91%) received routine dental care; only one currently smoked. Ten (30.3%) had periodontal health, 13 (39.4%) had gingivitis, and 10 (30.3%) had periodontitis. Th1 and innate immune responses predominated in serum. this website Many mediators were concentrated in joints, particularly IL-6, tissues are a common, and often unrecognized, site of extra-articular inflammation in RA.Microalgae are photosynthetic microorganisms with a major influence on global ecosystems. Further, owing to the production of various secondary metabolites, microalgae are also intensively studied for their enormous potential in biotechnology and its applications. While flow cytometry (FCM) is a fast and reliable method particularly suitable for genome size estimation in plant and animal studies, its application to microalgae often comes with many methodological challenges due to specific issues (e.g., cell wall composition, and presence of various secondary metabolites). Sample preparation requires considerable amounts of biomass, chemical fixation, and/or extraction of cellular components. In genome size estimation, appropriate methods for isolation of intact nuclei (using lysis buffers, razor-blade chopping, various enzymes, or bead-beating of cells) are essential for successful and high-quality analyses. Nuclear DNA amounts of microalgae diverge greatly, varying by almost 30,000-fold (0.01 to 286 pg). Even though new algal reference standards for genome size are now being introduced, animal red blood cells and nuclei from plant tissues are still predominantly used. Due to our limited knowledge of microalgal life cycles, particular caution should be taken during 1C/2C-value (or ploidy level) assignments.

Surgical templates are classified as noncritical devices, and they do not need to be sterile.

Primary aim of this study was to assess the microbiological burden present on the surgical templates without metallic sleeves after disinfection. Furthermore, to evaluate trueness after disinfection and steam sterilization at 121°C/15 min, and over a 8-week storage period. Finally, to assess their accuracy after in vitro implant placement simulation.

Forty surgical templates were printed and divided in five groups of eight templates each. Groups A to C were disinfected with 0.5% Chlorhexidine Gluconate and 70% ethyl alcohol base solution for 15 min. Templates in the group D were steam sterilized at 121°C for 15 min, while, the templates in the group E were used as control. Implant simulation was performed in the group A. Outcome measures were determination of bioburden, trueness assessment using GOM Inspect Professional software, and accuracy evaluated thought the mean angular deviation of simulated implants.

Total microbic charge measured as colony forming units (CFU) for sample, was 24.
