To examine the reciprocal and longitudinal associations between depressive symptoms and mobility disability in middle-aged and older Chinese adults with arthritis.
We used three waves of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. The analytic sample included 4682 community-dwelling adults aged ≥45 years with arthritis who completed the self-report measurement of depressive symptoms and mobility disability every 2 years over a 4-year study period. 2NBDG Analysis involved an autoregressive cross-lagged model.
The prevalence rates of comorbid depressive symptoms and mobility disability were 38.9%, 33.2% and 38.9%, respectively across three waves. There was a significant bidirectional and longitudinal relationship between depressive symptoms and mobility disability among middle-aged and older Chinese adults with arthritis. A higher level of depressive symptoms in previous waves was associated with a subsequent increase in mobility disability over time. A similar pattern was also shown in the opposite direction from mobility disability to depressive symptoms over time.
This study demonstrates that depressive symptoms and mobility disability are reciprocally related in Chinese adults with arthritis over time. In addition, it highlights the importance of early interventions aimed at reversing the downward spiral of depressive symptoms and mobility disability to improve the health of Chinese adults with arthritis. The present paper reflects on the long and productive career of Ehud Yairi, outlining his many contributions to the field of stuttering, and his outstanding achievements and accomplishments. The paper is based on interviews with him during 2020, after the conclusion of his research career. His visionary, lifetime work has advanced our understanding of the nature, origins, and epidemiology of this disorder. The inability of older adults to maintain independence is a consequence of sarcopenia and frailty. In order to identify the molecular mechanisms responsible for decreased physical function, it will be critical to utilize a small animal model. The main purpose of this study was to develop a composite comprehensive functional assessment battery (CFAB) of well-validated tests to determine physical function and exercise capacity in three age groups of male C57BL/6 mice (6 months old, n=29; 24-months, n=24; 28+ months, n=28). To measure physical function in mice, we used rotarod (overall motor function), grip meter (forelimb strength), treadmill (endurance), inverted cling (strength/endurance), voluntary wheel running (VWR, volitional exercise and activity rate), and muscle performance with in vivo contractile physiology (dorsiflexor torque). We hypothesized that CFAB would be a valid means to assess physical function of a given mouse across the lifespan. In addition, we proposed that CFAB could be used to determine relationships between different parameters associated with sarcopenia. We found that there was an overall age-related significant decline (p&0.05) in all measurements, and the CFAB score demonstrated that some individual mice (the upper quartile) retained the functional capacity of average mice one cohort younger. We conclude that the CFAB is a powerful, repeatable and non-invasive tool to assess and compare physical function and assess complex motor task ability in mice, which will enable researchers to easily track performance at the individual mouse level.
To determine the clinical and genetic characteristics of patients with
-associated retinal disorder (
-RD).
Fifteen patients from 12 families with inherited retinal disorder (IRD) and harboring
variants were ascertained from 730 Japanese families with IRD. Comprehensive ophthalmological examinations, including visual acuity (VA) measurement, retinal imaging, and electrophysiological assessment were performed to classify patients into three phenotype subgroups; macular dystrophy (MD), cone-rod dystrophy (CORD), and Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA). In silico analysis was performed for the detected variants, and the molecularly confirmed inheritance pattern was determined (autosomal dominant/recessive [AD/AR]).
The median age of onset/examination was 22.0/38.0 years (ranges, 0-55 and 1-73) with a median VA of 0.80/0.70 LogMAR units (ranges, 0.00-1.52 and 0.10-1.52) in the right/left eye, respectively. Macular atrophy was identified in seven patients (46.7%), and two had diffuse fundus disturbance (13.3%), and six had an essentially normal fundus (40.0%). There were 11 patients with generalized cone-rod dysfunction (78.6%), two with entire functional loss (14.3%), and one with confined macular dysfunction (7.1%). There were nine families with ADCORD, one with ARCORD, one with ADMD, and one with ARLCA. Ten
variants were identified, including four novel variants (p.Val56GlyfsTer262, p.Met246Ile, p.Arg761Trp, p.Glu874Lys).
This large cohort study delineates the disease spectrum of
-RD. Diverse clinical presentations with various severities of ADCORD and the early-onset severe phenotype of ARLCA are illustrated. A relatively lower prevalence of
-RD for ADCORD and ARLCA in the Japanese population was revealed.

In addition, the effects of the weight ratio of different PANI to BF@Hal on the microwave absorption properties of the materials were studied. The results show that when the weight ratio of PANI is 40%, the material has the best microwave absorption performance. The frequency bandwidth below -5 dB reached 9.60 GHz and the minimum absorption peak at 11.92 GHz was -14.77 dB. The combination of the PANI and BF@Hal nanosheets take advantage of the interfacial polarization, natural resonance, dielectric polarization and trapping of EM waves by internal reflection in PANI/BaFe12O19@Hal. Taking advantage of the unique microscopic morphology and interface characteristics, halloysite was introduced to improve the microwave absorption performance and enrich the absorbing mechanism of the composite materials.
