The recipient is William King (1768-1852), who was a member of the Massachusetts Senate in 1807-11, and the first Governor of Maine in 1820-21.

The sender is Leonard Jarvis (1781-1854), who was born in Boston and graduated in the Harvard Class of 1800. He established himself in Surry, where he became Sheriff of Hancock County 1821-29, and a member of the US House of Representatives 1829-1837.
