Dr. Amos Nourse (1794-1877) was a physician, a graduate of Harvard, who lived in Wiscassett, Hallowell, and Bath. He was collector of customs at Bath in 1845-46, and a lecturer and professor at Bowdoin from the 1840s to the 1860s. He briefly succeeded Hannibal Hamlin as a US Senator in 1857.
