The recipient is William King (1768-1852), who was a member of the Massachusetts Senate in 1807-11, and the first Governor of Maine in 1820-21.

The sender is John Dickinson (1782-1863). He was born in Amherst MA, and was a graduate of Williams College, Class of 1800, trained as a lawyer. He pioneered early in downeast ME, served in the legislature of MA, was a delegate from Machias to the ME constitutional convention, and Judge of Probate in Washington County for many years.
