The author is Dr. Aaron Porter (1752-1837), a brother-in-law of William King. He was an early property developer in the District of Maine, and the town of Porter, Maine was named for him.
The recipient is William King (1768-1852), who was a member of the Massachusetts Senate in 1807-11, and the first Governor of Maine in 1820-21.
