The author is probably Moses Carlton Jr. (1766-1857), a merchant shipowner of Wiscasset, who served on the Executive Council of Massachusetts during this period.
"A. Wood" is probably Abiel Wood Jr. (1772-1834) of Wiscasset, a member of the Massachusetts legislature and the U.S. House during this period.
