�Preston [penciled in on top] Norridgewock Sept 18. 1820. Dear Sir, Having had the pleasure of a short aquaint- -ance, I take the liberty to call your attention, a few moments to a subject in which I am interested. Although this mode may be a novel one, yet, it is one I prefer. I shall therefore, suggest my wishes without cautious reserve, or affected delicacy. ------ It is expected, a Judge of Probate [title underlined] for the County Somerset, will soon be appointed, although I can not learn, that any thing has been said on the subject. My Republican friends in this place, and [crossed out word] elsewhere, have intimated it to me. They are desirous I should make interest, or that they will make interest for me -- I am opposed to having Petitions circulated at large, as I have but little confidence in them -- there being little or no individ- -ual responsibility in them. I have therefore take the liberty to address your Excellency on this subject-- It is well known, the part I have --
