Permit me to address you on a subject which I think will be if carried out an adv- antage to the army. My brother in law John L. Lovejoy was here yesterday from East Corinth to get me to write you asking it as a great favor to let his Son Charles L. Lovejoy of Co. A. Second Regt. come home and recruit for the 16th Regt. Charles has said nothing about it but his father and mother and others are anxious for it. You know that Co. A was the Bangor Light infantry all [? cked] and smart fellows. His friends wanted him not to go in the Co as a private but go in another Regt and get a commission, as they said he was fit for captain. He would not [? ] to them and went as a private. He has since been made a corporal and Sargent
