His predecessor, though a very good officer, had some peculiarities not agreeable to Miss. M.; and her temper was such that the two could not harmonize. I dont think I can recall the language of my resignation. But I remember distinctly that it was a simple resignation giving no reasons. I took occasion however to speak favorably of the condition of the hospital, its management and officers. The treasurer, seeing my resignation in the paper, wrote me and inquired my reasons. I answered his letter informing him in substance it was because the trustees persisted in trading with one of their member ( I had been trying for a whole year to have the thing corrected.
