I, therefore, respectfully ask, if possible to remove Dr. Hawkins, either by inducing him to resign or transfer him to some other position more consistent with his health, than the arduous duties of a regimental surgeon, & thereby have Dr. Carr permanently established under an unconditional commission.

A removal of a Surgeon who is acceptable to a Regt. by transfer or other wise is generally the cause of much trouble and inconvenience, & ought, if possible, be avoided
