I am of your opinion in regard to the property of getting a new man for Colonel if possible and we [?] a good one. I took your birch ut to Shleallennon[?] but dont think it will work. Lt Henry of all men is my choice but I see that that will not succeed. The only outside man than can be made Col of this Regt is Woodman What do you think of him and the idea! Please let me know as soon as you get this. I think you can now if you should wish be major of this Regt instead of McClinturn who I learn is not popular with the Gov. Bryant [underlined] I quck did not aid [triple underlined] Mc any while in Augusta. You can at any rate get a recommendation of a majority of the officers for major at the next vacancy
