Q. There was an interval between the time that Mr. Leighton left and the time Capt. Lakin came in?
A. Yes, I think this report was presented about the time Mr. Leighton left.
Q. Was not Mr. Harlow with your knowledge and consent appointed to act in the interĀ ? and have entire charge of the hospital funds?
A. I think the council had nothing to do with the appointment of Dr. Harlow.
Q. Do you not know it to be a fact immediately after Mr. Leighton left and in the interval of several months which lapsed before Capt. Lakin his successor came in, that Dr. Harlow was put in charge of the funds of the institution and acted as treasurer and gave no bonds?
A. I could not say about the bonds, I was present with the trustees when someone proposed Dr. Harlow and that John W Chase who was just appointed trustee should act with him. I remember Chase asked where he should deposit the funds, and they were authorized to deposit in the Granite Bank.
Q. Was not the action of the trustees as to an appointment of that sort subject to the approval of the Gov. and council?
A. I think it was not, the law
