A. ( cont.) what I would be called to all portions of the hospital in the course of every day. As I remember now I was sick for four days; I think that was the longest I was ever away during that time.
Q. Dr. Harlow was there when you went there?
A. Yes sir, Immediately after the fire in Dec 1850 I commenced to work there, worked more or less for three years.
Q. You left of your own accord ?
A. Yes sir.
Q. Since you ceased to work in 1879 have you lived near the hospital?
A. Within a mile and a half.
Q. At the present time you are not connected with the hospital in any way?
A. No sir
Q. In these 20 years did you grow familiar with almost every attendant and with the majority of the patients?
A. I presume there was not a patient nut what I knew. I did not know the names of all of them perhaps.
Q. Did you also know the attendants?
A. Yes sir
Q. Were you in the habit of talking freely with patients and attendants?
A. Yes sir
Q. Did you encourage patients to state complaints to you if they had them?
A. No, it was not necessary
