The canoe in which Polis carried Thoreau on his trip Joe kept for years, hoping to sell it as a curiosity because he had heard that it had been written about in book.  It might be in existence today as it was well kept.  He collected and sold curiosities, made & sold baskets and kept a little shop which I well remember on the left hand of the main Indian street going up, a little before the rise by
