1187 Q. After Mr. Leighton left as steward and treasurer, whether Mr. Harlow was put in charge of the funds of the institution and actually had the management of the position of steward and treasurer and held it for several months? A. I think Dr. Harlow acted as steward and treasurer from sometime in January up to sometime in April. He was directed to deposit the money in the bank and to draw all payments by checks so we might know what became of the money, he gave no bonds. By Mr. Hall Q. How much of the first year of your service were you really at the hospital; engaged in your duties? A. I think I must have visited the hospital 5 or 6 times, possibly more. At the monthly visits stayed one night, at the quarterly meetings and annual meetings two night perhaps, and we would have a day to visit the patients and look through the halls. Q. At an ordinary visit how much time would you actually spend among the patients? A. We more frequently went into one wing in one half day and into the other the other half, would spend each visit as many as 6 or 7 hours, sometimes not more than 5, never less than that
