�As evidence in support of these statements, and of my character, I beg [?] to enclose to your Excellency, extracts from [?] letters. It must be superfluous to say, that I shall be very thankful for this appointment, and endeavor to discharge the duty of Clerk to the satisfaction of [?]: but, in conclusion, [?] that if there is any prospect of success, I will immediately [?] from gentlemen of the [?] respectability in this [?] satisfactory [?] of Character and qualifications for the official referred to: and from the known character of your Excellency, have hopes that your Excellency will pardon the liberty I have take, to make this application, as well as the [?] of this communication, and, that if the course I have taken be not the proper [?] that your Excellency will have the [?] to point it out to me.
